Hockey Development Officers

Hockey Development Officers (HDOs) are key enablers of the WHUs development plans. The HDO role encompasses club development, hockey in schools, workforce development (e.g. coach development), youth hockey, and, competitions and events. HDO responsibilities therefore include supporting clubs with the establishment of junior sections, building links between clubs and local schools, increasing the number of competing teams, improving the standard of coaching on offer, and helping clubs work towards club accreditation.

The WHU currently has 10 HDOs operating in 11 of Wales' 22 Unitary Authorities. The WHU wishes to extend the HDO network throughout Wales and will continue to explore funding opportunities that can facilitate this process. To find out if there is a HDO working in your unitary authority area please visit the staff section of the website.

If your Unitary Authority area is currently not being served by a HDO please contact Caroline Spanton, Head of Development at the WHU Office. email: caroline.spanton@welsh-hockey.co.uk
