Coaching
Good coaches are vital to the development of hockey in Wales. At Hockey Wales, we run an increasing number of Coaching Events every year. Some are formal courses that lead to qualifications whilst some are designed to help coaches develop their knowledge and skills in particular areas of the game.
We have completed the design of a range of coaching qualifications and courses in partnership with England Hockey and the Scottish Hockey Union. These Awards have been designed to meet the demanding requirements of the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate.
We also have a fully staffed Coaching unit whose sole task is to increase the number and standard of coaches working at all levels throughout the hockey community in Wales.
Hockey Wales National Coaching Strategy
Hockey Wales is working closely with the Hockey Coaching Strategy Group for Great Britain (GB) to develop a GB wide coaching strategy. The strategy will include aspects of development that will take place across England, Scotland Wales. There will also be a Hockey Wales Coaching Plan that will have specific relevance to Wales.
The Hockey Coaching Strategy Group for GB was established to lead the strategic direction and ensure the development of coaching across Great Britain. The group is chaired and managed by the England Hockey Board and evenly represented by Scottish Hockey and Hockey Wales. sports coach UK also sit on the group as advisors.
GB Coaching System Strategy
The Vision for the strategy is 'By 2016 Hockey across Great Britain will have a world leading coaching system, which will deliver active, skilled and appropriately qualified coaches to every stage of our player pathways'.
UK Coaching Framework
The UK Coaching Framework (established by sports coach UK) provides the blueprint for developing the system that will take coaching in the UK forward towards the goal of being the best in the world by 2016. The Framework will ensure that both the development and delivery of the coaching system is relevant across the whole of the UK, taking into account the policies, strategies and priorities of the devolved administrations and the Home Country Sports Councils.
The Hockey Wales Board of Directors have approved the GB Coaching Strategy which will be published early in April 2010 along with the WHU Coaching Strategy for Wales.
