Ysgol-PenybrynACTIVATE NATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOLS FINAL

Double delight for Dysynni at Schools Finals

Dysynni Hockey Club from Tywyn, Gwynedd, finally got the breakthrough at junior hockey level that all their hard work has deserved, picking up two Welsh schools titles on consecutive days at Maldwyn Leisure Centre, Newtown.

On Thursday, Ysgol Uwchradd Tywyn, with a backbone of Dysynni Hockey Club players and coached by club member Julia Dawson, won the Welsh Schoolboys U12 Competition, ahead of teams from Brynteg Comprehensive School, Eirias High School and Ffynone House School. This was followed up on Friday with a richly deserved triumph in the much coveted Activate National Primary Schools Finals, where Ysgol Penybryn, wholly made of Dysynni HC Junior players, defeated Sychdyn C.P. School 1 - 0.

Two hundred school teams from 150 schools entered this year's competition, which started in May with area finals, followed by ten zone finals in June, with the Zone winners going through to the Finals in Newtown. The Welsh Hockey Union coordinates this competition in partnership with Wales's Dragon Sport Officers, who are funded by the Sports Council for Wales, to offer 7-11 year olds fun sporting opportunities, and based in unitary authority areas.
