MEN'S WELSH CUP - finals results
Sunday 18th May
| Cardiff University | 0 | Whitchurch | 7 |
Whitchurch condemned Cardiff University to a heavy defeat when winning the Welsh Cup for the first time in 3 years. It soon became clear that Whitchurch were in no mood to let up with their swift passing game against the students and with Joe Naughlty scoring twice in the opening 13', both following excellent work by Jon Collis, it seemed to be not who would win, but how many Whitchurch would score. To their credit, Cardiff University continued to play attractive hockey which has held them in good stead this season but they did not seem to have an answer to Whitchurch's style. Alex Keating converted a penalty corner after 21' and with two goals just after half time from Naulghty (his third) and Laith El Khatib (penalty stroke) the game was for all intents and purposes over. Mark Whatling added Whitchurch's 6th before stalwart Neil Potter completed the scoring in the final minute.
