DAY 1: Friday 21 May 2010

Penarth started their tournament with a comprehensive win over HK Bask. Penarth were quickly into their stride with a goal 3 minutes into the game, by Penarth and Welsh legend, Kate Morgan. Penarth dominated with some excellent attacking hockey and were 7 – 0 up by half time.

The flowing passing game continued in the second half and Penarth ran out winners 12 – 0. The forwards and midfielders contributed to the score line. The goalscorers were: Kate Morgan 3; Linda Kotta 2; Hayley King 1; Kath Mee 2; Rachel Pryce 1; Carys Tucker 1; Kirsten Tedder 2.

Penarth are expecting a sterner test in the remaining pool games. The defensive line, which provided the platform from which they were able to attack, will look to build on today’s success.

DAY 2: Saturday 22 May 2010

On day 2, Penarth faced the host club Raca, who were a much improved unit from day 1. This resulted in the Penarth forwards and midfielders being heavily marked. Determined to disrupt the flowing hockey produced by the welsh side, Raca packed their defence and were relying on the long ball, counter attack. This was dealt with by a well organised Penarth defence. The very crowded circle limited the chances for Penarth. However, they took the lead in the 11th minute, with a well struck penalty corner, by Tracy Bow.

The second half proved just as frustrating for the Penarth Ladies, who continued to create chances in front of a heavily packed goal. Penarth dominated throughout and this pressure culminated in a second goal, from a penalty corner, again scored by Tracy Bow.

DAY 3: Sunday 23 May 2010

It took Penarth less than 3 minutes to score their first goal in this top of the pool clash. A series of passes put Kate Morgan into the clear to drive the ball past the Croatian keeper. Penarth were more than capable of playing a patient game countering a well organised half court press. A penalty corner in the 11th minute gave Linda Kotta the opportunity to extend Penarth lead to 2-0 at half time.

Croatia changed their game plan and pressed hard to try and unlock the Penarth defense, led by Lisa Duncan, but Penarth further extended their lead from a penalty corner strike from Cat Morton. Croatia were awarded a few penalty corners which were calmly dealt with by Anna Morris, who was outstanding in goal.

Croatia broke quickly and scored what was to be a consolation goal on 47 minutes. Linda Kotta scored her second and Penarth's 4th goal, and the lead was further extended when Cat Morton scored again from a penalty corner to top off an all round team performance.
