Dowlais HC Head to Portugal to Represent Wales

DOWLAIS HOCKEY CLUB REPRESENT WALES

South Wales Hockey Club Dowlais set off to Lisbon, Portugal today (Thursday) to represent Wales in the EuroHockey Women’s Indoor Club Challenge for the second time in the clubs’ history.

Dowlais Ladies Coach, Marcus Powell is pleased with the girls’ preparation,

The indoor league this year was really good for us, beating the big teams like Penarth but also having new opposition in the final playing against Whitchurch Saints, that was excellent.

“It was such an excellent opportunity with a big crowd in our home town, even though the result didn’t go our way before going to represent Wales in Europe”.

“We’ve really worked tirelessly; the girls are really happy to be leaving this week to face the competition”,

added Powell.

Dowlais Hockey Club will be representing Wales in the indoor event for the second time in the clubs’ history- after hosting the event in 2012- something the team is extremely proud of.

“Representing Wales means absolutely everything, we’ve worked so hard throughout the season and we’ve been training non-stop since we found out we had qualified

“Everyone has been enthusiastic to the max. We’ve also had lots of sponsors support so that has geared the team up a lot. Getting brand new kit has really boosted the team and overall they are just really passionate and up for it”.

Dowlais will be keeping a close eye on Russia, who will be their biggest competition. Russia play more indoor hockey than outdoor, they were strong in 2012 when Wales played host to the Club Challenge and remain a strong contender in 2017.
