Swansea City Spartans 3 v 1 Olten & West Warwicks

After a closely contested match in the first half of the season, Swansea City Spartans welcomed Olton to Ashleigh Road astro turf for the last home game of the season.

The game started well for Swansea who put the Olton defence under a lot of pressure. Chances were created down both flanks by Lisa Daley on the left and Carys Tucker on the right, and although Swansea couldn't convert them, it was a promising start for the home team.

The pressure eventually told though with a spate of goals in a 10 minute period before half time. The first came from a rebound at a short corner which fell kindly for Abi Welsford to slot the ball home, breaking the deadlock. Another nice piece of skill from Lisa Daley on the left set up SJ Thornburn to sweep the ball into the goal for Swansea's second. However, the third goal was the pick of the bunch from Natasha Marke-Jones who showed some close control in the 'D' beating a few defenders and then calmly lifting the ball over an advancing Olton goal keeper, stamping Swansea’s authority over the game.

The second half was a slightly different affair in terms of outcomes, however, Swansea continued to create a number of chances and dominate possession. This time the Olton goal keeper matched them pulling out some very good saves to deny Swansea any further goals. Olton had a rare chance of their own through a short corner and grabbed a consolation goal at the other end. The game finished 3-1 to Swansea who continued their good run of form from the last few games.

As this was our last home game the players would like to thank all those who  play a big part in running the club behind the scenes, the supporters who come to cheer us on regularly and also a big thank-you must be said to the ball patrol girls who did a great job for today's game!

A well deserved player of the match went to Izzy Webb!

The Spartans last game of the season is away to Trojans next week.
