NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: MARCH 2013

Cardiff & UWIC A and Swansea Uni clinch promotion in Davis Wood Leagues

With three victories in 6 days, the latest being last night with a 4-1 win over Bristol University A, Cardiff & UWIC were confirmed as being promoted to the Premiership division for the 1st time since the joint leagues were formed many years ago. Cardiff & UWIC A are 3 points clear of 2nd placed Bristol UWE and 10 clear of 3rd place Gloucester City. Having not lost a league match all season the team will be determined to win their remaining fixtures to ensure they take the League title. It's not just the Cardiff & UWIC A team that have won promotion as their C team will also be promoted from the De Cymru & The Marches 2 league with the title already won.

Swansea University have also won promotion into the Championship division with 3 games still to play. As they are 8 points clear of 2nd placed Cheltenham they look odds on to win the title as well. It has been a successful season for the students who will play local rivals Swansea City in the re-arranged Welsh Cup semi-final on 10th March after having already won through to the Shield final for the 5th time in 6 years. The University's C team are also winners having won the De Cymru 2 league having only dropped 2 points all season.

A number of other Welsh teams are also in contention for promotion and the remaining three weeks' worth of fixtures will prove crucial to their ambitions.
