Colwyn Bay, Dysynni & Northop Hall U11s & U13s qualify for Nationals

Northop Hall hosted the latest round of Welsh under 11s and under 13s club qualifiers.

The tournament started in quite dreadful conditions with driving rain and some puddles on the pitches. The under 11's tournament started with pre tournament favourites Colwyn Bay A against Northop Hall with the former coming out on top with a 2-0 victory. Dysynni another one of the form sides from previous tournaments got their campaign going with a deserved 3-0 victory over Colwyn Bay B side. Wrexham opened their campaign but unfortunately for them, Northop Hall found their form and came away with a 3-0 victory. The next match was a clash between the two Colwyn Bay sides with A coming out on top with an expected 6-0 victory. With Colwyn Bay looking strong, the next match was all important for who could be runners up and Dysynni pressed their claim with a 2-0 victory against the hosts Northop Hall. Colwyn Bay made then made it 3 victories out of 3 with a comfortable 3-0 win over Wrexham. Northop Hall finished their campaign with a Narrow 1-0 win over Colwyn Bay B. Dysynni still with high hopes of winning the tournament had back to back games and showed their intent by outclassing Wrexham with a 6 -0 win. Their next game was an all important Clash with Colwyn Bay A, in a really tight game the Bay scored the only goal of the game to win the tournament, In the last game of the tournament Colwyn Bay B played Wrexham which finished scoreless. Colwyn Bay A, the tournament winners, with 12 points, Dysynni 2nd with 9 points and Northop Hall 3rd with 6 points all qualified for the Welsh National Club Final's.

In the under 13's section, the tournament started with a tight game in which Dysynni took the honours with a 1-0 victory over Buckley. Hosts Northop hall then got their campaign started with a convincing 3-0 victory against Llandudno. Colwyn Bay showed their intent opening their fixtures with an 8-0 mauling of Buckley. Previous tournaments had always seen tight games between Dysynni and Northop Hall and this proved to be no exception with the mid Wales side taking a 1-0 victory. Buckley then recovered from their previous game with a hard thought 2-0 victory over Llandudno. Dysynni and Colwyn Bay then fought out a tense 0-0 draw producing some excellent hockey in the process. Northop Hall then produced another confident performance with a 4-1 victory over Buckley coming from a goal down. Llandudno arguably with the toughest schedule then had two back to back games, the first with them suffering a 3-0 loss against a well drilled Colwyn Bay side. Dysynni then took on Llandudno and only led 1-0 until an unfortunate injury to a Llandudno player left them down to 6 players. Dysynni scored a further five goals to seal a 6-0 victory against a spirited Llandudno effort. The tournament was coming down to the last game with Colwyn Bay needing a victory against the Hosts whilst anxious Dysynni faces looked on.  Colwyn Bay took the lead but with 3 minutes left Hall equalised, in the very last minute Colwyn Bay scored a dramatic winner to ensure the tournament victory was theirs. Colwyn Bay finished top of the pile with 10 points having scored more goals than Dysynni  who went through the whole tournament not conceding and also finishing on 10 points, Northop Hall finishing 3rd with 6 points. The positions emulating the under 11's section and all three top sides qualified for the Welsh National Final's.

Despite a difficult start in horrendous weather, Northop Hall are very proud to have hosted a successful tournament and would like to thank the competitors, coaches, officials for all their help in staging this event.
