Commonwealth Games Captain and Vice-Captain confirmed

Claire Lowry Pippa JonesWelsh Hockey Head Coach Jo Nightingale has confirmed the Captain and Vice Captain for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. Pippa Jones (photo left) will take on the mantle of Captain supported by Vice Captain Claire Lowry (photo right).

Nightingale quotes "Captain Pippa Jones is a highly valued and experienced player with 61 Welsh caps to her name. A character who commands the respect of every squad member, Pippa is a strong communicator who works hard to support team mates and help the team to achieve its potential. She demonstrates strong leadership skills encouraging co-operative teamwork and building a strong work ethic within the squad. We expect Pippa to thrive on the responsibility of being captain and I am confident that her professionalism will inspire others both on and off the pitch".

Nightingale goes on to add that Vice Captain Claire Lowry "...has demonstrated great confidence in her responsibility as vice captain: She has demonstrated the desire to lead by example on the pitch; encouraging and motivating those around her to perform to their highest level. Claire provides excellent support to Pippa in developing a good team and work ethic. She communicates well with all team members, demanding professionalism and commitment from all."
