NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: OCTOBER 2009

George Harris retires

George HarrisGeorge Harris, the long time, outstanding Goalkeeper for Wales has retired from International hockey. George has been a marvellous servant for Welsh Hockey over the past 10 years and who can forget his incredible performance to almost single handedly keep the Scots at bay with a stunning world class display of keeping in the 2007 Celtic Cup triumph in Wrexham. His experience, passion and commitment to the cause will be sorely missed.

The Men's Head coach Zak Jones commented: "It was always a pleasure to play in front of George and more recently it has also been great to work with him from the coaching perspective. It was fabulous to see him playing with such poise and command in the Euros at Wrexham this year." Nazir Mohammed, the Senior Men's Team Manager, added: "George is a genuine and honest guy who has developed his goalkeeping skills to the highest level since he played for Whitchurch when he studied in Cardiff. It has been a pleasure to coach and manage him."

The WHU wishes George all the best of good fortune and trusts he will keep in contact with his many friends in Welsh Hockey.
