Hockey success at Gwent Performance Development Centre

Gwent Performance Development Centre

For the first time a Performance Development Centre (PDC) ran in South East Wales starting last month. Coaching was lead by Danny Newcombe, hockey coach and lecturer at UWIC. Danny's current involvement with junior international and National League hockey has been a great refresher to the coaches at the PDC. The 12 coaches involved came from Abergavenny HC, Newport HC and UWIC HC. The PDC was hosted by Newport HC and staged on Monday evenings at Spytty Park International Sports Village in Newport.
Over 75 players have taken part in the PDC with regular attendance of around 60 players. Players involved live as far apart as Marshfield, Cwmcarn, Abergavenny and Chepstow. Now at week 6 and looking forward to Sunday's PDC Festival at Swansea the progress in the players skills has been very noticeable in the last two weeks particularly in hitting, and decision making in movement off the ball before beating a defender.
