Newport School takes Welsh Hockey Title
Rougemont Primary School won the 2010 Welsh Primary Schools Activate Hockey competition at an exciting final at Maldwyn Leisure Centre on July 2nd. Ysgol Penybryn (Gwynedd) won against Plascrug school (Ceredigion) in one of the semi finals with Rougemont beating Guilsfield School (Powys) in the semi finals and going onto victory against Ysgol Penybryn 1-0 in the final.
Dawn Mitchell, Senior Welsh Women's squad presented the trophy to Rougemont School. Dawn started playing hockey for Wales when she was 13 in the U16s squad. Dawn was very impressed at the standard of hockey on show last Friday. Dawn is now in training for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in October, the squad will be announced in August – so fingers crossed for Dawn!
"It was great having Dawn at the Welsh finals, as the players really looked up to her, and was available to chat, have photographs taken and sign autographs from a postcard to arms and sticks!"
