NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: APRIL 2010

North Wales Cup Final Results

An excellent weekend's hockey saw the region's two top teams share the trophies on offer. Wrexham won the Premier Cup 8-0 against Rhyl with Northop Hall winning both the League and the Shield competitions beating Bangor University in the League 8-1 and Wrexham 2s in the Shield 4-3 in the closest game of the weekend.

In the Premier Cup, Wrexham, having comfortably disposed of their nearest rivals Northop Hall 5-0 in a one-sided semi final on Saturday, initially had to work hard to break down a resolute Rhyl team shorn of many regular first team players but, once having established a comfortable 3-0 half time lead, added 5 further goals in the second period to claim a well-deserved North Wales Premier Cup win.

In the Shield, Northop Hall were stunned when Wrexham took a shock early lead. Hall hit back but Wrexham added to their lead before two short corner routines saw Hall establish a 3-2 lead at half time. Hall added to their lead early in the second half but a late Wrexham goal led to a nervy finish which Hall managed to negotiate.

Many thanks go to Adrian Bennett for organizing the Cup competitions this year. It has been a trying season owing to the inclement weather but the cup weekend went off well.

Many thanks also to Glyndwr University for their sponsorship of our competitions over the past three years. It is to be hoped that all sides can develop further next season.
