The WHU ran the first ever Performance Development Centre (PDCs) competitions on Tuesday 27 October which proved to be a roaring success.

Players from across Wales have been attending PDCs throughout September and October on a weekly basis receiving expert coaching from a team of qualified and experienced coaches. PDCs are a key part of the WHU's Player Pathway, located between club junior sections and Regional Academies.

Swansea was the venue for the U15 and U17 girls where more than 150 young players from all Mid and South Wales PDC’s took part whilst the National Hockey Centre at WIS hosted the boys of the same age group seeing more than 60 players participate.

Regional Academy Coaches and WHU selectors attended each event to determine which players should be invited to attend the Regional Academies which start in November.

PDC’s are the primary route for players with potential to be selected into Regional Academies and Welsh National Age Group squads. The hunt for Regional Academy players continues this Sunday 1 November with the PDC competition in Wrexham. The WHU aims to set up 12-16 PDC’s throughout Wales in partnership with local clubs that have a good track record of running junior coaching programmes and suitably qualified coaches. In addition, coaches from other local clubs and schools are encouraged to get involved, as PDC’s aim to develop coaches as well as players.
