NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: AUGUST 2010

Rhondda Cynon Taff CBC held their AIM Community Sports Awards Evening on 14th July

Rhondda LHCThe night was dedicated to people and clubs who have made huge contributions to the world of sport. Categories included Unsung Hero, Club/School links, Young Volunteer and Club Administrator. Rhondda Ladies Hockey Club was again up for awards - being nominated for many of these categories. They won the Club Innovation project, an award that recognises the club's commitment and hard work in driving the club forward and promoting hockey as a fast exciting game for all. They have worked tirelessly with Sports Development, the local community and WHU, embracing the LAPA plan (Local Authority Partnership Agreement) and the local WHU PDC (Performance Development Centre). The club never fail to be represented at hockey forums, always contributing greatly and are currently linked to 3 Secondary schools within the borough. They have coaches in a local primary school, and have even had to make arrangements for an extra night from Sept to give all the young members at the club their own training sessions. It is hoped that this will further enhance the junior sections and enter more age groups into the South Wales league.

Hilary Williams, the club coach, also coaches the County Schoolgirls Under 14's, and this year the club will have WHU Youth Activators to work in the local Community with Development Officer Judith Powell. Veteran players at the club joined in the action for the first time this season in the Vets Competition held in North Wales and Swansea. The club has always made good use of Community Chest Funding and were the first Ladies side in Wales to achieve WHU Accreditation along with RCT AIM (ACTIVATE INNOVATE MOTIVATE) accreditation.

The award was well deserved and the club should be very proud of their achievements and of its members.
