NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: JULY 2008

Sheila Morrow "absolutely delighted" at Olympic appointment

Sheila Morrow, one of Wales greatest players, will finally achieve her Olympic dream in Beijing.

Sheila, who was the Great Britain captain for three years in the Eighties and played for Wales over 112 times, has been appointed as a Judge for the Hockey competition at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

As a player, Sheila was selected to attend the 1980 Olympics in Moscow but GB hockey was one of the three sports to boycott the games along with fencing and equestrianism. She was also a member of the 1984 GB squad who failed to qualify for the Los Angeles Games but were first reserve to attend. Sheila then turned her hand to umpiring and proved just as successful at this with over 30 games officiating at international level but unfortunately was not appointed to an Olympic games.

Sheila comments: "So you could say that having failed to get to the Olympics as a player or an umpire, this is my last chance - one I'm only too happy to grasp with both hands!"

We wish Sheila all the very best for the forthcoming Olympic Games.
