NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: AUGUST 2009

Success for North Wales Summer Camp!

The Glyndwr University Hockey Summer Camp took place from the 18th-21st August with 29 boys and girls between 11-16 years of age enjoying a week of top coaching and fun activities. The players trained on the international standard water based pitch at the University, which was fresh from hosting the Euro Hockey Trophy two weeks earlier. The coaching was lead by Wales senior international Mark Bateman, who put the players through their paces, with the help of activators Jamie Hooper, Lynsey Porter, Bethan Till and Sian Crisp. The goalkeepers also had special treatment with Andy Hughes, Wales U18 GK providing them with expert tuition.

After long days training the players enjoyed relaxing with some fun activities in the evening, including 5-a-side football, rounder's, table tennis, badminton and the final night quiz, which threw up some rather strange answers! At the end of each day it was off to bed for some well needed rest in the university halls of residence, before another full day of core skills, goal scoring and small sided games on the hockey pitch!

All the players went away with a camp T-shirt and hopefully as a better player thanks to the excellent coaching provided. Well done to all the players who put in a massive amount of effort during the week!

The camp will run again next August, so if you’re interested please get in touch with l.ible@glyndwr.ac.uk
