NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: JUNE 2010

Wales v British Asians Hockey Association (BAHA)

Firstly to the Individual Country Organisers may I, on behalf of Wales, thank you all for your efforts in getting your teams to Swansea to make the weekend the success it was. Many of you are organisers of these events yourselves so you know what goes on behind the scenes but without the help and assistance of the Squad organisers it simply would not go ahead so give yourselves a big pat on the back!

A big well done to Ireland's Andy Nye for getting the Irish Men 45s into the competition for the first time and to Alison Piggot for getting the first Irish Ladies over 40's squad up and running and to Jamie Aiken for all his help. This, as we all know when we reflect back on when our own countries put their first age groups together, is no mean achievement. We all hope that Ireland can now look to getting a 55s men and 45s ladies together for next year.

Players:

Thank you all for playing in the spirit of Veterans Hockey. I trust you will all have gone home with fond memories from the weekend, both from on and off the pitch, etched in yourminds. The Irish and Scottish Ladies taking over the wedding dance floor on Saturday night might just be one!! It is these memories that you will reflect on in years to come and I thank you for being part of mine.

Our thanks must go out to Colin Crayford, Technical Director, (he was the guy sat in the hallway of the changing rooms for much of the weekend - the only one without a sun tan!!) for all the efforts he put in prior and during the event.

Can I also express thanks to the officials that came from far and wide (and in some cases last minute - thank you David) to help with umpiring and table duties, often thankless tasks. They give of their time for little reward !!

Congratulations to:

The Scottish Ladies in winning both the first 4 Nations ladies over 40's competition and the Tri-Nations over 45s.

England 45s for winning the 45s Four Nations and England 55s for winning the 55s Tri-Nations.
