NEWS FROM HOCKEY WALES: JULY 2009

Wales Senior Men coach future stars

On Sunday July 12th, at Glyndwr University, the host venue for this years Euro Hockey Trophy, the Welsh Senior Mens squad held a coaching day for players in the North Wales region. The day was all about developing skills and techniques through skill development exercises and small sided games which were led by Welsh international players, who were on hand to pass on their advice and experience to budding young players and in some cases potential future internationals.

The day was attended by 40 players from the region, with ages ranging from as young as 6 up to 16, with a couple of adults joining in as well, to pick the international players brains! Most of the players were from the local schools, Clubs and PDC's which was excellent to see and they certainly enjoyed the day, which was held in glorious sunshine. After the coaching had taken place each player received a certificate of attendance and each player was entered into a prize draw for a brand new hockey stick which was won by Struan Nisbet of Wrexham HC.

The day was organised by Nazir Mohammed (Wales Mens Manager) and Lee Ible (North East Wales Hockey Development Officer/Senior international player) and was a huge success, with special thanks going to theĀ  international players who turned out to coach, James Hughes, Ben Edge, Oliver Cooper and David Bond. All of the players went away happy and excited at the prospect of returning to the venue in a few weeks time, for the Euro Hockey Trophy, to watch their 'coaches' in action!
