For the first time in the recent history of Welsh women's hockey on winning a bronze medal at the EuroHockey Trophy tournament in Rome in July 2009 the Senior Women's squad have won spot in the World Cup Qualifying tournmament to be played in February 2010. This gives them the opportunity to qualify for the largest hockey tournament in the World; the World Cup, a just deserved achievement for such a talented squad.
As it currently stands, in order to compete at the World Cup Qualifiers the squad need to raise a substantial amount of funding as to have to decline the opportunity to compete at such a prestigious event would be very disappointing to all the squad who have already committed an enormous amount of time, effort and personal finance to compete for their country.
As a squad we are currently seeking sponsors for the team to enable us to compete at the World Cup Qualifiers and are looking to raise in excess of £40,000 which will cover flights, accommodation, and transport for the squad whilst at the tournament, which is a large feat for any organisation.
The squad is also fully committed to fundraising and the Birmingham based squad members have been leading the way by running in the Birmingham Half Marathon and holding a hockey coaching morning for girls around the Birmingham area.
The Half Marathon was run by squad members Alys Brooks, Hannah Richardson, Elin Thomas and Tina Evans who all play their club hockey for Birmingham University. The four all completed the half marathon under 2 hours and raised an impressive £600 towards the World Cup Qualifiers.
The coaching morning also proved very successful with players coming from The Chase, Trent College and Windsow High School. The standard of the players was very impressive and it was a thoroughly enjoyable morning for all involved.
Any sponsorship is greatly received and in return we are able to offer branding opportunities, website publicity and presence at all international home matches (programme, PR, media). We would also generate PR for your organisation within Wales for your backing of the national squad.
If you are able to make any contribution it will be greatly appreciated. Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Elen Mumford, Senior Player, Welsh Senior Women on either Mumfy_uk@hotmail.com or 0778665385.
