Whitchurch Hockey Club Awarded Level 3 Accreditation

The WHU wish to congratulate everyone at Whitchurch Hockey Club for becoming the first club in Wales to achieve Level 3 Club Accreditation: "3 Sticks".

Roger Harris, Club Chairman, was presented with the Level 3 Certificate by Matt James at a recent meeting of the Cardiff Hockey Forum, and again at the club's junior training night when members of the youth section could be there. The Level 3 Accreditation is awarded to clubs that are well run in every respect, but particularly coaching and junior player development. Level 3 clubs are therefore required to have a junior player development programme for 3 age groups; a minimum of two UKCC Level 2 coaches and one coach working towards UKCC Level 3; and be running a Performance Development Centre (PDC) for local junior players from the wider area. Thanks to the excellent work carried out at Whitchurch HC by all the club's volunteers, but particularly Chris Despres, Bob Fleck and Andy Gowman, Whitchurch were able to meet all the coaching and player development criteria.

Matt James, WHU Development Manager, commented on their latest achievement:

"Whitchurch HC are the benchmark for hockey in Wales, both on and off the field, and it is therefore both fitting and richly deserved that they are the first club in Wales to achieve the 3 Sticks Accreditation. The volunteers who help run Whitchurch HC contribute thousands of hours each year and they are the bedrock of our sport, like all our club volunteers Every area of Whitchurch HC is expertly managed and we are therefore trying to share their expertise and best practice examples with other clubs in Wales. Hockey in Wales is very fortunate to have them leading the way."
