Whitchurch come unstuck against league leaders
Whitchurch lost 5-2 at home to Team Bath Buccaneers in an exciting top of the table EHL Conference West clash. Leaders Bath, in impressive form this season, arrived with a 100% record, but Whitchurch started well, a good interchange of passing leading to Mark Whatling opening the scoring for Whitchurch in the fourth minute. In a fast-paced game Whitchurch doubled their lead fifteen minutes later, Jon Collis converting from Whitchurch's first penalty corner award. Bath started the second period strongly, and pulled back a goal ten minutes into the half. Both sides had chances to score in an open game and then Bath turned the game on its head with a burst of three goals in ten minutes midway through the half to give them a 4-2 lead. Whitchurch clawed their way back into the game but failed to convert some good chances and Bath added a further goal late on to run out 5-2 winners and extend their lead at the top of the table. Despite their defeat Whitchurch remain in second place and look to get back to winning ways away at Old Georgians this coming Sunday.
