Whitchurch go down in 9 goal thriller
A goal conceded two minutes from time consigned Whitchurch to a 5-4 defeat at Bournville, seven of the goals coming in an action-packed second period. Goals from Tom Rowland and Mark Crennan had given Bournville a 2-0 interval lead, and when Stefan Sekula added a third shortly after the restart the home side looked well set for a convincing win. Whitchurch, however, had other ideas and in a magnificent fight-back goals from Jon Collis, Martyn White and Mark Whatling brought the scores level going into the last quarter. In a thrilling climax to the match Chris Graham restored Bournville's lead only for Jamie Westerman to hit back for Whitchurch's equaliser two minutes later. Both sides strived for the winner and it was Bournville who clinched it, Rowland scoring his second of the match from a penalty corner with just two minutes remaining. It meant a second successive defeat for Whitchurch but they remain in second place in the EHL Conference West table.
