Whitchurch win again!
Whitchurch climb into 2nd place in the EHL Conference West after a tense 3-2 win at Guildford. Whitchurch started the game in a positive manner and ex GB goalkeeper Simon Mason was in great form to deny early goal bound efforts from Rhys Gowman and Jamie Westerman. The Whitchurch pressure told in the 9', Mark Whatling making a fine solo run into the circle and playing in Martyn White to open the scoring. Duncan Marsh equalised for Guildford against the run of play midway through the half and then the home side took the lead 5' later, William Blockley converting their first penalty corner. Whitchurch regained their momentum and a few minutes before the break a telling pass from Joe Naughalty found Alex Keating who fired home the equaliser. Whitchurch strove hard for a third goal in the second period but Mason made some fine saves to keep the scores level. With 10' remaining Whitchurch made the breakthrough, White and Louis Jones combined well down the right to create an opening for Westerman to finish well and give Whitchurch the lead. Whitchurch survived two penalty corners from Guildford in the last thirty seconds to run out 3-2 winners and clinch their fourth successive win.
