Men's team announced for London 2012

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced today the 16 players who will represent Team GB in men's hockey at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Mixed 6-a-side tournament

On the morning of the Hockey Wales AGM (22nd July) a mixed tournament is being run at Maes Glas LC, Bangor followed by a buffet lunch. For full details please see flyer (below) which should be completed and returned together with the team sheet to Sarah Latham at the North Wales Hockey Office.

Hockey Wales AGM

The AGM of Welsh Hockey Limited trading as Hockey Wales will take place on Sunday 22nd July at 15:00 at Sport Wales Regional Centre, Plas Menai and Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff. Plas Menai will be the main site with video conferencing linking to Cardiff. If any member (club) wishes to propose any resolution for the AGM full details must be received by the Hockey Wales office by 30th June. The Agenda together with all associated papers will be available on the website from early July. For those wishing to take in some hockey before the AGM are more than welcome to attend the Mixed International against England at NHC, Cardiff which starts at 12:00 (free entry). In North Wales there will be a mixed 6-a-side competition taking place. Further information and applications to enter the competition are available from sarah.latham@hockeywales.org.uk.

Hockey Wales 360° Hockey Centre Recruitment

Rhys Griffiths-Jones

It is with deep regret that we have to advise members that Rhys Griffiths-Jones lost his battle with cancer, aged just 36. Rhys moved to New Zealand a number of years ago and leaves a wife and son. He played for Cardiff HC (as did his father Terry), and represented Wales at all levels from U-15 through to Seniors, the last cap being won in 1997. If anybody would like to forward a note to be read out at his funeral on 15th June in Henderson, New Zealand please forward to Dallas Squire at dallassquire@yahoo.com.

Hockey Wales is seeking to create a new, regionalised structure for North Wales. The role of the new Regional Chair will be to help create, lead and manage the North Wales Hockey Board, acting as a champion for the region, the sport and the National Governing Body (NGB). The Chair will also provide clear guidance in the development and implementation of the regional plan, ensuring it delivers a balance of the key stakeholders requirements for the overall advancement of Hockey in the region.

Employment opportunity: Hockey Agent, South-East Wales area

Hockey Wales (HW) is looking for a hockey agent to work as part of the new Hockey Framework. Hockey Agents are the driving force to proactively develop hockey on the ground, the sales team to champion hockey to retain existing members, engage new audiences, and act as a go between to support clubs. We are looking for a level 2* coach for approximately 10 hours per week for a 1 year fixed term contract at £15 ph, working in targeted areas across South East Wales.

Great Britain sign off Investec London Cup with win over Ireland

Great Britain’s women rounded off their Investec London Cup campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory in front of a spirited home crowd in Chiswick. Two first half goals from Leicester’s Hannah Macleod, who turned 28 on Saturday, set GB on their way and Reading’s Emily Maguire added a third from a penalty corner in the second half to seal the win in Great Britain’s final competitive fixture before the London 2012 Olympic Games.

GB Women suffer defeat to South Africa in opening match

As the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations were coming to a close the Great Britain women were beginning their pursuit of the Investec London Cup when they faced Commonwealth opposition in the shape of South Africa. With some key omissions from the Great Britain squad, including Captain Kate Walsh who was ruled out earlier in the day, the opening game proved too tough a task as a strong South African side secured a 3-1 victory.

Swansea regain Vets title

The National Veterans competition this year saw five teams compete for the title, with Cardiff & UWIC in their first year of trying to run a vets side using the games as friendlies as they had a small number of underage players.

Sarah Thomas misses Investec Cup due to injury

Sarah Thomas has not been selected for the forthcoming Investec Cup as she suffered an injury to her ankle in training although she is expected to make a full recovery in time for the Olympic Games.
