Back To Hockey is your chance to have

a gentle, friendly reintroduction or

introduction to hockey in a

sociable and informal environment!

Last summer hockey clubs across Wales opened their doors to players new and old by participating in the BackTo Hockey Summer Campaign. This year Back To Hockey will be returning to clubs from the 9th May, giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to take part in hockey socially over the summer months.

The majority of people that attend Back To Hockey sessions are looking to improve their fitness, confidence and brush up on their hockey skills. Sessions are led by a motivating and friendly Back2Hockey Activator from each club and organised regionally by Back To Hockey Coordinators (currently recruiting).

What is Back To Hockey?

Back To Hockey is a gentle introduction (or reintroduction) into hockey aimed at new or lapsed players. Hockey clubs deliver the sessions and it is an opportunity to play in a social, friendly environment. The focus is initially on basic skill sessions, slowly increasing the intensity at a pace that you are comfortable with. The Back2Hockey activators are fun, enthusiastic and there to help you!

How long does the programme last and what is involved?

Back To Hockey session run during the summer months at the host clubs discretion. Sessions are typically weekly and last 1 hour, which means a short term commitment that gives players:

  • Introduction to the game
  • Chance to get a bit fitter
  • Learn new skills
  • Play team hockey in a safe, fun environment
  • The chance to make new friends
Information for Players

I haven’t played hockey in ages. Does that matter?

It really doesn’t! In fact, you won’t be alone. Back To Hockey is designed specifically for you and the many others who have not played recently, or even at all. New people are always welcome to the sport!

I’m not very fit.

Also not a problem. There is no level of fitness expected here. Back2Hockey coaches will take into account your level of fitness when planning and delivering each session. They will be designed to improve your overall fitness over time.

How do I get started then?

Easy. Contact your local club running Back To Hockey from the table above.

If your local club is not currently running Back To Hockey, please contact Phil Leach at philip.leach@hockeywales.org.uk and we will let you know of your closest centre.
