Who we are

The Senior Women Performance Training Squad (PTS) are passionate about performance and intent on driving our ambition into a reality. We are 28 young women who are passionate about playing for Wales and achieving our ambitions of being the best we can be. We want to raise our game to compete against full time athletes and programmes across the world.  We know that with some small support we can compete with some of these countries and improve our European ranking from 17th to 10th.

So how do we get on an even keel… we are part funded by Hockey Wales, however as players we still support this funding with significant player contributions, costing each of individually around £1,500 per year plus our club fees and equipment costs.

Public or private support would help us free up time to invest more in our training and pay for support services like strength and conditioning and medical costs as well as travel and subsistence. Our players are based all over the UK so have a wide base for promotion and advertising of your business/organisation.

We have an inspiring environment where we accept life can’t be the same for everyone, but we are whole heartedly committmed to becomming a serious contender within the World of hockey and we train and play with the intent to be the best we can be. Welsh pride and playing for the dragon is our bedrock and we call on this frequently when times get tough due to the constraints of being amateur athletes.

What we do: Visability and Opportunity

We have 40 centralised contact days held at our National Sports Centre in Cardiff supported by 20 competition days around Europe and sometimes in other parts of the world. We have qualified for the Commonwealth Games for the last two cycles and compete in the World League and European B.

We often invite audiences and media to our open training sessions and competitions. Crowds for the recent Canada test matches reached 200 plus for each match, including school parties from Wales.

We are remote athletes the rest of the year based across 14 counties and 2 countries within the UK.  Our squad players compete for 10 different clubs in the National League and 2 European clubs over the domestic season.  We have a world-class strength & conditioning programme to support our athlete development. We train 10 hours a week minimum on top of our full time careers, which range from teachers, physios and dentists  though to charity organisations.

We would like to work with partners and sponsors to develop and promote women’s sport and inspire young players to pursue their dreams. The average age of the squad is 23 years and so have a great opportunity to inspire our younger age groups to push for performance at early ages. Between the squad we have 789 international Caps representing Wales across the World. We have had test events against 18 countries in the past two years.

We have a reach of 7000 twitter followers across the squad, who are very willing to raise the profile of sponsors/partners via the use of blogs, video and social media alongside visits, coaching sessions, talks or public events.

In June and July this year we will play in the Investec London Cup as final preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Investec London Cup, will be streamed via the Internet and covered/promoted by the England Hockey Board, Scottish Hockey and Hockey Wales, through their website and social media sources.

One thing is for sure, should you support and invest in us, you will visibly see and feel what passion we have for any supporting partners, as we 100% appreciate their value to our vision.

Where we want to be

We want to fulfill our potential. We accept there are true constraints for our development versus full time athletes and programmes, but believe with small amounts of financial support, we can make a step change and improve our European ranking and more importantly our training environment. We want to commit more time to training and be supported by services such as Olympic gyms, physiotherapy, medical costs and lifestyle changes. We want to reduce the direct cost for players so we can keep a strong pool of talent in a high performance environment for as long as possible and gain higher level support for outside of the centralised training. If we can reduce the financial burden on our individual international players they can focus more on high quality training, which we need to raise our ranking and spend time supporting our sport and brand.
