11th Place finish for Wales in their first World Cup

In their final match of the FIH men’s World Cup 2023 Wales faced tough opponents in Argentina. The sides had only met twice in their victory and Wales held a 100% victory record.

However, it was not to be for Wales on the day as Argentina produced an impressive 6-0 win.

Argentina’s first goal was found early in the second quarter through Lucas Toscani.

Despite securing two penalty corners Wales were unable to respond, with Argentina adding to their tally shortly after.

Following Argentinian goals came from Martin Ferreiro, Augustin Bugallo, Tarazona Santiago and Maico Casella.

The defeat sees Wales, currently ranked 14th in the world secure an 11th place finish in their first ever World cup.
