Benjamin Walker’s double secures victory over Wales

Ireland’s Benjamin Walker scored two field goals in the space of a minute to secure a 3-0 victory over Wales in the final match of their test series.

Wales dominated possession in the first half despite Ireland’s Luke Madeley putting the hosts ahead in the 9th minute through a penalty corner before Walker secured their defeat in the 39th minute of the game.

Today’s result sees Ireland take the test series victory with 2 games to one.

Head Coach Danny Newcombe:

“It was a pretty frustrating result again and mainly due to the pretty positive performance from the boys today. We played well but simply didn’t execute and made some naïve decisions which cost us.

The whole purpose of this test series was to clarify the bits we need to get better at moving forward and I think we certainly did that.”

Co-captain Luke Hawker commented:

“I think the boys will quite naturally be disappointed with today’s result. I don’t think the score line reflects the performance we put in. But certainly some errors and areas to sharpen up on as we move into our next challenge. "
