It is with great sadness we announce the passing, in December 2024, of 55-year-old David Bleach.Â
As a youth player David played at Cardiff-based hockey club Llanishen & Llandaff, making his way into the first team at the age of just 16 courtesy of his competitive nature.Â
In 1989, aged 18, David left to play for Stourport HC in the national league. As well as playing club hockey at the highest level he was proud to represent Wales at all levels, also trialling for GB seniors.Â
David played 36 times for the Wales senior side, making his debut in Cardiff against France in May 1988. His senior international career came to a close almost exactly four years later, finishing at Bisham Abbey against Argentina. Â
In 1995 David returned to his home club of Llanishen & Llandaff as a player coach. During this time, he led the club to their highest ever league standing and also two European Cup campaigns.Â
During 2024, David proudly received his commemorative Welsh cap as part of the recent Hoci Cymru Heritage Project.Â
David was a committed and respected player and asset to any team he played in. He was also a great contributor to club life off the field, a husband to Natalie and proud father to two girls, Emma and Ines. Our thoughts are with David’s family and friends at this sad time.Â
