Sarah Jones opens new astroturf pitch at Rougemont School

Earlier this month, Hockey Wales athlete Sarah Jones opened the brand-new astroturf pitch at Rougemont School in Newport.

The resurfaced pitch, which took just over 7 weeks to complete, is part of a five-year development plan for sport at Rougemont, with hockey at the forefront.

Sarah, who recently received her 100th cap for Wales and achieved her 150th combined appearance for Wales and GB at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, officially opened the pitch as the new school year and hockey season got underway.

Inspiring the next generation of young hockey players, Sarah spent time playing hockey with the school’s pupils and teaching them some news skills, before showing them her bronze medal from Tokyo 2020 and answering all their hockey questions.

Director of Sport at Rougemont School Kerry Marshall said “There is a real buzz about hockey at the school right now. We are especially grateful to Sarah Jones for ‘cutting the ribbon’ and officially opening the pitch.

“She is an inspiration to a great number of our hockey players who were so excited to be able to talk to her, see a real Olympic medal and play hockey with her. A massive thank you to Hockey Wales for facilitating this.”
