Three Senior Debuts as Wales Men defeat Scotland

3 players made their senior international debuts today as Hoci Cymru men secured a fantastic 4-1 victory over Scotland in their first international fixtures of 2024.

A goal-less first half was soon put to bed as Rhodri Furlong opened Wales’ scoring following an early Scottish lead, before Gareth Griffiths slotted in a penalty stroke to give Wales’ the lead.

Jack Pritchard and Alf Dinnie followed suit with field goals to secure a strong first victory for Wales at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Will Penrose, Ben Wall and Sam Rollett were all awarded their first caps in the victory with Ben Wall commenting:

“it was so special to make my debut today and have all of my family watching”

Alongside these debuts was a strong cohort of experienced players including a first time in the captains armband for Ben Francis. In addition, Toby Reynolds-Cotterill was back in goal for Wales, on the back of a strong performance at the FIH Pro London league.

Ben Francis reflected:

“it was a strong win for the team today and I know we’ll be looking forward to going again tomorrow. To lead the team out was an absolute honour and I couldn’t be happier really”

The men will play again at 12pm tomorrow.
